Culture, Creativity, and Community with Sphere Seventeen Studios at the 56th Fiesta Mexicana

At the 56th Fiesta Mexicana in Grand Rapids, M & I Interiors partnered with Sphere Seventeen Studios to honor Mexican heritage through art, tradition, and collaboration. The celebration highlighted how culture, creativity, and community strengthen bonds and bring people together.

From September 12–14, 2025, we had the privilege of joining the 56th Annual Fiesta Mexicana at Calder Plaza in Downtown Grand Rapids.

For us at M & I Interiors, this was far more than setting up a booth—it was about standing alongside our neighbors, celebrating culture, and showing why community matters. Partnering with Sphere Seventeen Studios, a local Hispanic-owned creative company, allowed us to highlight art, passion, and tradition in a way that truly connected with festivalgoers.

Honoring the Legacy of Fiesta Mexicana

For more than five decades, Fiesta Mexicana has been a cornerstone celebration in Grand Rapids, drawing thousands of people together to celebrate Mexican heritage.

A Festival Rooted in Tradition

First celebrated in the 1970s, Fiesta Mexicana has grown into one of West Michigan’s most anticipated cultural gatherings.

The three-day event has become a place where families can share traditional food, music, and dance. Mariachi bands, folkloric performers, and authentic cuisine such as tamales and tacos all come together to create an atmosphere that is joyful and deeply meaningful.

A Celebration for Everyone

While Fiesta Mexicana uplifts the Hispanic community, it also welcomes the broader Grand Rapids population.

The festival provides an opportunity for cultures to connect and for neighbors to experience traditions they may not have encountered before. That spirit of inclusion makes Fiesta Mexicana powerful, and it is the reason we felt it was essential to participate.

Partnering with Sphere Seventeen Studios

Our presence at Fiesta Mexicana was made even more meaningful through our collaboration with Sphere Seventeen Studios.

M & I Interiors’ Commitment to Community

At M & I Interiors, being a local business in Michigan means building more than projects—it means strengthening relationships and standing with the people who make our city vibrant.

The Value of Cultural Events

Festivals like Fiesta Mexicana remind us that culture is not just preserved through memory but through active participation. Supporting events of this kind helps create shared spaces where families, neighbors, and businesses can connect in meaningful ways.

Showing Up Where It Matters

Our presence at Fiesta Mexicana was one way of putting this belief into action.

Taking part in a celebration that reflects the identity of so many in Grand Rapids gave us the chance to stand alongside our neighbors and demonstrate that business success and community well-being go hand in hand.

Shared Values in Collaboration

We strive to create spaces that support everyday life and bring people together. When businesses and artists work side by side, the result is a stronger, more connected community.

Why Community Matters: Culture, Collaboration, and Connection in Action

Community is the relationships, traditions, and shared moments that give life to a city.

Fiesta Mexicana reminded us of the importance of nurturing those bonds, because when culture is celebrated openly, the entire community grows stronger.

1. Preserving Cultural Traditions

Traditions carry the weight of history and the hope of the future.

At Fiesta Mexicana, every song, every dance, and every shared meal told a story that connected generations. Supporting these traditions helps preserve the legacy of those who came before while inspiring younger generations to take pride in their heritage.

As a local business, we recognize that honoring cultural traditions is a way of honoring the people who make our city diverse and vibrant.

2. Supporting Local Creatives and Businesses

Community also flourishes when local businesses and creatives are given space to thrive. Hispanic-owned companies and artists bring unique perspectives, skills, and ideas that enrich our entire region.

Partnering with Sphere Seventeen Studios reminded us of the importance of amplifying these voices. Every collaboration not only contributes to the local economy but also adds to the cultural richness that defines Grand Rapids.

Supporting local means supporting growth, innovation, and resilience.

3. Building Trust and Belonging

Belonging is created when people feel seen, valued, and supported.

At Fiesta Mexicana, trust was built in the small moments—the conversations we had with attendees, the excitement of children watching designs take shape, the laughter and connection that filled the plaza.

These experiences reinforced for us that showing up matters. Trust is not built through words alone but through consistent presence and genuine participation in community life.

Final Thoughts

The 56th Fiesta Mexicana was more than a weekend of celebration—it was a reflection of why culture, creativity, and community matter. Our partnership with Sphere Seventeen Studios demonstrated how collaboration can strengthen traditions and inspire connection.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to supporting events and organizations that bring people together, celebrate diversity, and enrich Grand Rapids.

Community is not just where we work—it is who we are.
